How I Pray & What I Gain

I was recently asked how I pray. The querent was a dear friend and very wise person, undergoing a little spiritual crisis, which usually precedes a big expansion for Seekers and Truth Stalkers.

Authentic prayer is as unique as kissing and also a communion. Once in the desert in Egypt under the stars, with strangers in a circle, we each shared a prayer. The most beautiful was a sung prayer by an Israeli girl who had never been asked to speak before and was moved to tears, as we were, to share her prayer.

Seeker: Who do you pray to?

I pray to God.

Every arena that seeks to know or explore truth from quantum science to the Beloved Mighty I AM Presence is an examination of the omniscient, omnipresent Energy that powers the Universe. But speaking of a personal relationship, well, I call God God. To me, a personal relationship with God is the entirety of the exercise of prayer.

I don’t want you to believe in God. I want you to experience God. Paramhansa Yogananda

Paramahansa Yogananda

I know semantics trigger and I could say the Universe, Goddess, or the All That Is, but I think I’ll just say God for this article and hope I don’t clear the room, so loaded has that moniker become. Sometimes I say Mother Father. Sometimes Papa. Most importantly to me, God is Love. Devotion in motion. The infinite creativity from which flows the sacred architectural geometrics of universes and galaxies and lovers and daisies and the rivers of evolution that continually transform Life. Do I think of the personal expression of God as a man with a long white beard on a cloud? Well, no. My experience is sensate.

When God comes to visit, I am wrapped in bliss beyond description and inspirations and insights often come. To move between a deepening sense of God as expressed by The Unified Field that is connecting, permeating, empowering and holding us all, and Papa coming for a star-filled cuppa and hugs is thrilling and a relationship available to all of us. If you sincerely and passionately wish it and take the time to connect, it needn’t take long.

All souls are equal. The difference between you and me is that I made the effort. I showed God that I loved him and He came to me. Love is the magnet that God cannot escape.  Paramahansa Yogananda

Seeker: When you think of Christ do you think of Jesus?

St. Therese of Lisieux

I think of the Christ as the First Thought, the First Light of God—the Child that is every eventuality and potential in the Timeless NOW. To me, Christ Jesus is the Emissary of the Christ.

Christ comes from the Greek Christos, to be anointed by God.

The supreme wayshower to the Universal Heart, Jesus came to tell us we are all Christed, we have just forgotten. As our Brother, he is present and available right now to take our hand and lead us back to the limitless creativity that is our birthright.

As the Emissary of the Christ, He is nondenominational and beyond religion. The organizations He is the center of often seem to run counter to His teachings. Consequently, His message of Love is lost.

The good God does not need years to accomplish His work of love in a soul; one ray from His Heart can, in an instant, make His flower bloom for eternity. The Little Flower,  Therese of Lisieux

Prayer is the key of the morning and the bolt of the evening. Mahatma Ghandi

Through my long journey with Jesus, from calling Him ceaselessly to rescue me when I was a small girl, to dancing with Him on a deck before the sea in Bali, I have gradually conquered my Doubting Thomas mind to see him as the Most Radiant One. Someone who has walked every land on Mama Earth, as myth and legend attest to. Most of all a teacher of Love, forgiveness, and mercy. Lord of the Dance. Prince of Peace. Emissary of Divine Love.

He is the marrying kind and when you have experienced the inner wedding, which can come unbidden in the night and toss you in the sacred fire that does not burn but transforms what it touches into itself— leaving you sparkling embers in morning light, you are compelled to espouse him.

Love thy God with all they heart and mind and soul and love thy neighbor as thyself. Jesus

Seeker: What do you think of the Holy Spirit?

To me, the Holy Spirit is the bridge between God and the Children of God.

God is the omniscient, omnipresent Cosmic Dreamer, eternal and infinite. The Great I AM. The animating energy of God is the Holy Spirit. She is the comforter, the Sophia, the Bright Mother, the bride, the breath, the gifter, the Power, the interceder.

The Divine Feminine Principle.

Sri Anandamoyi Ma

Holy Spirit filled on the shores of Carmel Bay She let me see how She sees. The Light radiating from the eyes of the children, men, and women playing in the peach light as the sun set. The unbearably beautiful heightened colors of everything.

The expansion of the heart so exquisite, almost painful, burning, swallowing me whole. I saw that it was She who gives us creativity, She is the animator.

She is the deeply loving Mother, there to hold us and encourage us and bring us to whatever height we aspire to.

When by the flood of your tears the inner and outer have fused into One, you will find Her whom you sought with such anguish, nearer than the nearest, the very breath of life, the very core of every heart.  Anandamayi Ma

Seeker: What do you pray to God for?

Mostly I ask God to come closer. When I feel God is close I pray to protect the children of the world, for my friends and family, for humanity and all the children of this Earth, all her realms, and Earth herself. For those who are suffering, hungry, tormented alone. And I pray for you, dear reader. I pray to inspire you and brighten your day. If I receive inspiration I ask for help in manifesting it.

There are more tears shed over answered prayers than over unanswered prayers. Teresa of Avila

My prayer for myself is for more surrender to God. I say, Please, take away whatever is between us. I know we are One with God, co-dreamers, but I humble myself like a child before God. I often pray on my knees with love for God, as God’s touch fills me. May I love better.

Ecstasy of Saint Teresa by the sculptor Bernini. She felt her heart had been pierced, so deep was her ecstasy in communion with Christ

Sometimes when I am in despair from the trials and tribulations of life, I pray for God to come closer and lift me up. I don’t ask for Him to solve the problems. I never blame God. God sends his endless stuff of life pouring from Infinity for us to manifest whatever we chose to experience, and we are here to experience. To learn to share. To co-create a paradise to live and love and evolve. To innovate, push the boundaries and inspire.

Sometimes I don’t feel God and that is Loneliness.

The wave is the same as the ocean, though it is not the whole ocean. So, each wave of creation is a part of the eternal Ocean of Spirit. The Ocean can exist without the waves, but the waves cannot exist without the Ocean. Paramahansa Yogananda

What about the children? Yes, how can God allow this? What some of the children suffer on this Earth is excruciating. I do not know the answer. But I do know the more I let God consume me the more of God is in the world to wake up those who do not know that to harm another is to harm themselves.

What if this Free Will experiment called Earth is based on non-intervention? Must we learn responsibility for each other? What are we doing, personally to correct these problems?

It is unconscionable that children suffer from lack and at the hands of adults who are meant to protect them. But yet, many of those who have suffered often go on to become leaders of compassion, wayshowers out of the Matrix of pain we have all had a part in creating, either by action or non-action.

My vocation is love. Therese of Lisieux

In the extreme trials of my childhood, I felt abandoned and alone. But yet, there was something near me that I could feel, getting me through it. One day I heard that ‘something’ whisper a mantra for me, My strength is as the strength of ten because my heart is pure. And it did help get me through.

Finally, prayers have mass and energy. Thoughts are things. Energy follows intention. Was that helpful something someone’s prayer for me? Did someone’s prayer for the skinny little misfit girl with the faraway eyes send an angel to my side? Hence, I am here to tell the tale.

Bless you.

With Love, Stephanie
